My students and my kids might be the first to tell you I love analogies. Since I am a visual thinker, I find it useful to create that picture in my mind before I truly get to a place of understanding. I have gotten some questions about the actual bookmaking process, so I thought it might be fun to explain it through an analogy. What would I tie it into you ask?

Let's say... buying a new home.
Bear with me while I connect the dots.
Let's say for connection’s sake- the release of the book Born at the End of the World is a condominium proposed to be built in an up-and-coming neighborhood.
Perhaps you first heard about the new construction through ads on billboards, TV advertisements, or algorithm orchestrated social media ads that direct you to "buy your dream home now!" If you are untethered to the usual channels of advertisement, maybe you got a prompt from a friend- "Hey, did you hear that there is a new home being built? Check it out."
As a prospective homeowner, you might see the plans months - maybe even a full year, ahead of the finish date. When you see the plans and can visualize the home, you find you are really interested in the space then get your down payment in.

The architect, in the meantime, meets with the builders, electricians and all other contractors to make sure the home is perfect for your move in date.
The production of the book is very similar. In the coming months, I have a tight, very structured plan with my editors and publishing house New Degree Press to get my manuscript ready for publication and distribution to anywhere you can get books and audibles. Between now and then, there will still be late nights and early mornings as we fine tune the details and get ready for the big release.
You may have pre-ordered Born at the End of the World already, maybe you are still thinking about it, maybe - you have watched my video and have it in your calendar to get your copy while you can. Maybe you have referred it to a friend. Thank you!
To the over two hundred people who pre-ordered, You have my deepest gratitude! You will get to have sneak peeks of sections of the book and vote for the final cover design. I will even give a few people access to the entire book before its publication date. Everyone who preordered is already on my acknowledgements page as an early supporter of this story and will get a signed copy. Not to mention the launch parties, live readings, panel discussions, book club gatherings and a rare opportunity to attend a live Uproot Podcast recording. Exciting times!
